For the most part wealthy people work less than those who are not as well off. Why? It’s simple really, it takes the same amount of work to be rich as it does to be poor. The only real difference comes when you think of how the efforts of YOUR work affect the compensation you receive for it. People that are not well off usually work for someone else and, if you work for someone else, most of YOUR effort goes towards paying that person instead of paying you.
This is a lesson I learned well while working for a mechanic. There was a period of three days where I ran the shop (boss went out of town), and it made me realize something, while he was away on vacation, he was still making $40/hour just off labor, not to mention markup on parts. I was making $10/hour whether he was there or not and at the same time, he was making $40/hour + parts whether he was there or not. I made my decision during those 3 days that I simply couldn’t work for someone else for my main income because it would literally do no good for me or my future (besides teaching me this lesson).
Unfortunately this is all a little too cliche for my liking. I love cliches because they are, for the most part, true but people blow them off as, “that’s so cliche”. If you seriously think about it though, it does take the same amount (or less) of work to be rich as it does to be poor, you just have to be smart about how you are compensated for that work.
