I had two teachers (more specifically one who has quite a thought provoking blog) in high school that liked to make their students think. I don’t mean any normal kind of thinking either, I mean the kind of thinking that makes your brain hurt. The kind of thinking that gave your head the feeling your back would have if you tried to lift a house. The kind of thinking that makes your thoughts have an end, just because your brain doesn’t know what to think next. They asked asked questions like:
- How do we know what we know?
- Can God really do anything? (i.e. Can God ,without changing the math system or our knowledge and understanding of it, make 2+2=5)
- What is the purpose or meaning of life?
- How do we know we exist? (How do we know aren’t just a head in jar or in the Matrix?)
I quite enjoy the questions that don’t and can’t have answers because I don’t like doing mindless things. Asking myself a question that doesn’t have an answer is like exercise for the mind, and who doesn’t like a little exercise. I also know that to be a good business person you need a good handle on thinking and the thought process. Put simply, if you are not good at thinking you will not be good at life. You can improve though, just like in anything else, (hint: it starts with a P and ends with RACTICE) you can actually improve how good you are at thinking. Reading, having deep discussions, and brainstorming are just a few ways to wake up your mind. So I encourage you to pick up a book and flex that brain muscle, it’s the only one you have and the only one that will make you rich.
